In this study, the analysis of the elastic and elasto-plastic stresses on the cross section of a composite laminate with circular hole subjected to in-plane loads is performed. The laminate with a circular hole is subjected to a uniform axial planar load along one edge where no load is exerted along the hole edge. Aluminum metal-matrix composite laminate is composed of four orthotropic plates oriented with different angles in the symmetric and anti-symmetric manner. The elastic and elastoplastic stresses are analyzed with the Finite Element Method (FEM) by means of a program developed with FORTRAN. By the end of the analysis the retained stresses due to yield of the composite laminate are evaluated and the results of the applications are compared.KEY WORDS: elasto-plastic stress, orthotropic composite material, finite elements method.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
