Objetivo: Describir las características Deshidratación en adultos mayores. Método: Para el desarrollo de esta revisión bibliográfica se utilizaron estrategias de búsqueda estructurada para las bases de datos MEDLINE, PUBMED, SCIENCEDIRECT, GOOGLE ACADEMICO. Resultados y conclusiones: En los adultos mayores, el agua es un nutriente esencial debido a que la susceptibilidad a las perdidas es mucho más frecuente. La disminución de la sensación de sed, fallas gastrointestinales, la perdida de la función renal son algunos de los factores más importantes que pueden desencadenar una pérdida de agua. La deshidratación en las personas de la tercera edad puede provocar cambios en las funciones del organismo como estreñimiento, alteración de la función cognitiva, caídas, infección del tracto urinario, entre algunas otras.
