Abstract. Lilia D, Damiri N, Zulkarnain M, Mulawarman. 2021. Short Communication: Drying methods and diversity of contaminant fungi on coffee beans in South Ogan Komering Ulu District, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 22: 1037-1042. South Ogan Komering Ulu District is a Robusta coffee-producing area in South Sumatra. The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of two drying methods on reducing the moisture content of coffee beans by comparing beans dried on tarpaulin and on asphalt roads. The study also assessed the diversity and percentage of fungal contaminants found in coffee beans from each drying method (including OTA-producing fungi). Data was obtained from May until July 2020 from surveys, interviews and samples collected from 30 farmers drying on tarpaulin and 30 farmers drying on the asphalt. The results showed that the moisture content was higher after drying on tarpaulin (13.97% ± 0.55) than on the asphalt road (11.68% ± 0.40). Furthermore, 13 different types of fungi were found for the coffee beans drying on the tarpaulin and 10 types of fungi for those drying on asphalt. In the two methods of drying, it was found that two types of fungi namely Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus ochraceus were potential of producing ochratoxin A (OTA). At the drying on tarpaulin was found mix of more than 93.3% A.niger and A. ochraceus, meanwhile at the drying on asphalt were found mix of more than 90% A.niger and A.ochraceus respectively.
According to data from the Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, the perpetrators of narcotics crimes committed in 2019 there were 75 cases of which 86% were grouped in the productive age of 18-40 years, in 2020 there were 82 cases and 90% were grouped in the productive age of 18-40 years, and In 2021 in the jurisdiction of the Ogan Komering Ulu Police, there were 95 cases of which 96% were grouped in the productive age of 18-40 years of narcotics abuse. The research design used is a quantitative research design with a case-control research approach. The population is all residents in East Baturaja sub-district, East Baturaja Police has 105,076 residents aged 18-40 years totaling 58 cases. The sample in this study is Cases are productive age 18-40 years who are really drug users as many as 58 people. While the controls are productive age 18-40 years who really do not use drugs as many as 58 people. It is known that the proportion of respondents who have bad social relationships and become drug abusers is 70.7% greater than the proportion of respondents who have good social relationships and become drug abusers as much as 12.2%. It is known that the proportion of respondents with heavy workloads becomes drug abuse as much as 67.7%, which is greater than the proportion of respondents with light workloads who become drug abusers as much as 22.2%. It is known that the proportion of respondents with severe stress who become drug abusers is 66.2% greater than the proportion of respondents with moderate stress who become drug abusers as much as 17.9%.The results of the chi square test get p value 0.000 < (0.5) which means there is a relationship between environmental association and drug abuse. The results of the chi square test get p value 0.000 < (0.5) which means there is a relationship between workload and abuse drugs. The results of the chi square test obtained p value 0.000 < (0.5) which means that there is a relationship between stress and drug abuse.
One of the Robusta coffee producing areas in South Sumatera is South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency and it has an area of 70,799 hectares which is spread across 11 sub-districts. This study aims to assess the level of hygiene and sanitation in post-harvest coffee processing, and it was conducted through direct surveys at harvest time and by interviews and questionnaires. Sampling was carried out deliberately, on 30 coffee farmers spread across eleven villages in BPR Ranau Tengah Sub-District. The results showed that the farmers had not yet implemented hygiene and sanitation in post-harvest processing which involved every activity from the picking of the fruit to its storage. At the fruit picking stage, all colors were collected and then dried together without any sorting. The drying stage did not meet the post-harvest coffee processing standards, as it resulted in high water content of the beans, which was between 62,26 ±0,76% and 13,97±0,55. Likewise, the storage process did not meet the hygiene and sanitation standards because not only were the coffee beans put in sacks, they were also stored in poorly ventilated warehouses or storage areas and mixed with other commodities. This predisposed them to fungi contamination. Two ocratoxin producing fungi, namely, Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus ochraceus were found in processed and stored coffee beans that did not meet hygiene and sanitation standards.
