A coesão devido à presença de umidade é um parâmetro de grande importância para o escoamento de materiais granulados. O presente trabalho analisa os principais modelos de pontes de ligação entre partículas formadas a partir da presença da umidade. Estes modelos são implementados em um código comercial com base no Método dos Elementos Discretos - DEM. Faz-se uma avaliação da influência dos parâmetros dos modelos e a sua aplicabilidade com o método DEM. Para um escoamento padrão em caixas de fluxo comparam-se resultados entre os modelos e com ensaios experimentais. Os resultados numéricos mostraram-se concordantes com o obtidos experimentalmente.
A emissão de poeira pode levar a problemas de saúde, riscos de explosão e poluição ambiental. Por isso, deve-se compreender os parâmetros relacionados à geração de poeira para aprimorar técnicas de controle de emissão. A redução de poeira com base na pulverização via spray é o principal método para prevenir e controlar a emissão de poeira no empilhamento de minério. Sendo assim, para analisar os parâmetros associados à geração de poeira, foi desenvolvido uma bancada de transportadores em escala para testes de supressão de poeira via spray. Esta instalação está equipada com bicos de pulverização, cuja localização relativa na esteira pode ser ajustada, como também, a velocidade de transporte pode ser controlada. O desempenho da supressão de poeira é analisado através do monitoramento em pontos estratégicos utilizando contadores de partículas. Os resultados dessa investigação mostram que a geração de poeira aumentou com a altura de queda, sendo que a região de impacto do material sobre a superfície de empilhamento, emite maior concentração em comparação a região frontal do fluxo. Os resultados também mostraram que, após a aspersão sobre o material, a concentração de poeira reduziu cerca de quase 70% para a maior altura de empilhamento. Observou-se ainda que o Pellet feed possui uma umidade crítica maior que a do Sínter feed, como também, emite uma maior concentração, mostrando que por se tratar de um material de granulometria menor o Pellet feed tende a emitir maior concentração de particulados quando manuseado.
