AbstractThe objective of this paper is to construct a tool for calculation of the scores and descriptive statistics of WHOQOL-100. For the results calculation of WHOQOL-100, the WHOQOL Group suggests SPSS's utilization. The tool proposed in this study was developed on Microsoft Excel, following the proposed syntax by the WHOQOL Group. The tool was tried by mastering students of Production Engineering and associate students of Analysis and Development of Systems of UTFPR. It also was submitted to a simulation with the SPSS, where the obtained results were exactly the same. The syntax used in the tool construction is available, enabling its adaptation for application in other instruments of evaluation. It concludes that, from the present paper, was possible to make
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the Brazilian managers’ attitudes toward older workers, and how those attitudes explain HRM decisions in hypothetical scenarios. Design/methodology/approach Brazilian managers (n=201) reported their attitudes toward older workers and their decisions in scenarios involving an older vs a younger applicant/worker. Findings In spite of expressing positive attitudes toward older workers, a significant number of managers chose a younger one even when the older worker is described as more productive. To build a better understanding of how attitudes predict decisions, it is necessary to identify attitudinal profiles and the interplay between attitudinal dimensions, rather than simply studying each dimension separately. Attitudinal profiling also shows that some managers discriminate against younger workers, a finding, that is, ignored when (only) regressions are taken into account. The managers’ attitudes and behavioral intentions relate with their age. Evidence does not support the double jeopardy effect against older women workers. Research limitations/implications The sample is small. The scenarios cover a reduced number of HRM decisions. The data about attitudes and decisions were collected simultaneously from a single source. The findings may be influenced by idiosyncrasies of the context. Future studies should also consider real situations, not hypothetical ones. Practical implications Efforts must be made (e.g. via training and development) to raise managers’ awareness about the consequences of ageism in organizations. Originality/value Empirical studies about managers’ perceptions/attitudes toward older workers are scarce. Studies in the Brazilian context are even scarcer.
Abstract: This paper analyzed the characteristics of publications related to the topics Innovation and Business Models. The research was conducted in the Web of Science from ISI Web of Knowledge database seeking to identify the major themes, authors, areas, types of documents, and the sources, title, year of publication, institutions, countries, and languages of these publications, as well as "hot topics" related to the topic "Innovation and Business Models". The study listed the most cited publications with authors who publish on the topic searched. Data analysis was based on the index calculations h-b and m. According to the results of this study, the number of publications has increased significantly over the period analyzed, with focus in the United States, with 97% of the publications written in English and the main source periodical -WIT Transactions on Ecology and the Environment. Among the 20 topics combined with the subjects studied, Market, Management, Strategy, R&D, and Industry presented an index of m ≥ 2, being classified as unique topics to reach not only in their own area of research. Results also show that the ten publications with the highest number of citations, and a reference in the subject researched, do not belong to the authors who publish on the subject.
