Electrochemical oxidation of cobalt in a solution of 4-methyl-N-(2-pyridylmethyl)benzenesulfonamide (HL, 1) in acetonitrile afforded the compounds [Co II L 2 ] (2) or [Co III L 2 L o ] (3). When 2,2Ј-bipyridine (bipy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) was added to the electrolytic phase, [Co II L 2 bipy] (4) and [Co II L 2 phen] (5) were obtained. The crystal structures of HL (1), [Co II L 2 ] (2) and [Co III L 2 L o ] (3) were determined by X-ray diffraction techniques. The compound [Co II L 2 ] is mononuclear and has a distorted tetrahedral [CoN 4 ] geometry, with each amide ligand acting as an anionic (N amide N py ) bidentate
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
