BACKGROUND We recently described the Mycobacterium tuberculosis RDRio genotype, a clonally derived sublineage within the Latin American–Mediterranean (LAM) family. Genetic diversity of M. tuberculosis likely affects the clinical aspects of tuberculosis (TB). Prospective studies that address this issue are scarce and remain controversial. OBJECTIVE To determine the association of differential clinical features of pulmonary TB with the RDRio M. tuberculosis etiology. METHODS Culture-proven pulmonary TB patients (n = 272) were clinically evaluated, including history, physical examination, chest X-ray and anti-human immunodeficiency virus serology. Isolates were classified as RDRio or non-RDRio M. tuberculosis by multiplex polymerase chain reaction and further spoligotyped. Clinical and M. tuberculosis genotype data were analyzed. RESULTS RDRio M. tuberculosis caused disease in 26.5% (72/270) of all TB cases. The LAM genotype, of which RDRio strains are members, was responsible for 46.0% of the TB cases. Demographic data, major signs and symptoms, radiographic presentation, microbiological features and clinical outcomes were not significantly different among patients with TB caused by RDRio and non-RDRio strains. CONCLUSIONS Disease caused by M. tuberculosis RDRio strains was not clinically distinctive or more severe than disease caused by non-RDRio strains in this series of TB patients. Larger prospective studies specifically designed to disclose differential clinical characteristics of TB caused by specific M. tuberculosis lineages are needed.
Abstract This study aimed to analyze the nursing actions aimed at the adolescent public in basic care, through an integrative literature review. We analyzed 9 articles from the databases BDENF, LILACS and MEDLINE, published between the years 2012 and 2016, in the Portuguese language. It was verified that the actions directed to this public, in the majority of the times, are summarized in reception and listening of the patient, that when this looks for the service. It is necessary to create concrete actions that meet the specific needs of this group, as well as prepare the team to deal with this population, providing linkage and integral attention to adolescent health. ABSTRACT Objectives: to describe the sociodemographic profile of patients on hemodialysis and analyze the pre/post-hemodialysis laboratory parameters. Method: this is a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study with patients on hemodialysis. Data were collected using a sociodemographic form and documentary clipping of pre/post-hemodialysis laboratory examinations, examined by means of relative and absolute frequencies by the software Statistical Package of Social Sciences 21.0, as well as calculation of standard deviation and the reduction rate of metabolites. Results: of the 151 participants, 72.8% were men, 52.3% pardos, 74.4% Catholics, 37.8% were 40-59 years old, 33.8% had 4-8 years of schooling, 63.3% had 1-3 years of hemodialysis and 60.3% were admitted at the emergency. After hemodialysis, there was a reduction rate for urea, phosphorus, aluminum and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase. Conclusion: the profile of patients on hemodialysis consists of men, pardos, Catholics, 40-59 years old, 1-3 years of hemodialysis and from the emergency. The hemodialysis propitiated a significant reduction rate of nitrogenous waste. Educational activities focused on the patient’s role in the prevention of complications stand out, in order to determine the treatment success.
