O envelhecimento é uma fase da vida marcada por transformações, sobretudo no perfil antropométrico. Nos idosos ocorre uma perda progressiva de massa magra, com aumento da proporção de gordura corpórea, além da diminuição da estatura, relaxamento da musculatura abdominal e alteração da elasticidade da pele. Com isso o idoso fica frágil e vulnerável a doenças associadas, como doenças cardiovasculares, hipertensão, diabetes, afetando a qualidade de vida e o aumento da mortalidade. Diante desse pressuposto, esse estudo objetivou identificar a associação do Índice de Massa Corporal com os fatores sociodemográficos, hábitos de vida, hábitos alimentares, fatores clínicos e medidas antropométricas de idosos participantes de grupo de convivência de Montes Claros, Minas Gerais. Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico do tipo analítico, transversal e quantitativo. Os dados foram coletados a partir de um questionário que abordava aspectos sociodemográficos, econômicos, hábitos de vida, hábitos alimentares, fatores clínicos e medidas antropométricas. Foram avaliados 49 idosos com média de idade de 69±6,88 anos. Houve prevalência de idosos com CA e RCQ alterados (69,4%; 75,5%), respectivamente. Pode-se observar ainda que 46,9% dos idosos estão com sobrepeso, e 18,3% obesos. Houve associação significativa da alteração do IMC com a variável cor da pele (p= 0,043), tratamento para perda de peso (p= 0,034), ingestão de refrigerante, mais de três vezes na semana (p=0,001), comer carne vermelha com gordura (p=0,011) e circunferência abdominal (p= 0,000).
