Background:The palmaris longus muscle is a slender fusiform muscle. It is especially prone to vary in comparison to other muscles in the upper limb and it is considered to be a vestigial structure. It is the most variable muscle in the human body, although its reverted state is barely discussed. The palmaris longus inversion can cause compression on neurovascular bundles, specially the median nerve on the carpal tunnel and the ulnar nerve on the Guyon canal.
SUMMARY:Corona mortis is classified as a connection between the inferior epigastric and obturator vessels over the superior pubic ramus. Its incidence varies among different studies. The corona mortis is an extremely important anatomical variation as it can be injured in a great number of procedures. Moreover, it can also be injured during pelvic or acetabular fractures. A male cadaver fixed in a 10 % formalin solution had its pelvic region dissected and an arterial corona mortis was observed on its right side. The left hemipelvis presented no variations whatsoever. This vessel was measured with the aid of a digital caliper. We aim to report this variation and address -from an orthopedic point of view -the clinical and surgical significance of the corona mortis.
This paper proposes an analytical methodology to allocate and size active power photovoltaic generation (PVG) units with embedded DC/AC inverter (PVGI) to be integrated as concentrated or dispersed generation in isolated medium voltage electrical grids. The methodology considers multiple objectives: improving the electrical grid voltage profile; reducing active power losses and the diesel generation participation. To validate the proposed methodology, the IEEE 33 and 69 buses networks and an isolated real electrical system were simulated. The results obtained demonstrated that the proposed methodology is effective in providing a solution with improvement in voltage profile, active power losses reduction, diesel generation participation reduction.
This article presents a proposal for a methodology to classify the types of steps, using piezoelectric sensors embedded in an ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) insole, configuring a low-cost intelligent insole. From a few steps or a walk by the user, the electrical signals generated by the piezoelectric sensors are measured or stored for later treatment and analysis. The steps of the proposed methodology were applied step by step in tests carried out to classify the types of footsteps of male and female users, who used the intelligent insoles built into running shoes. The proposed methodology was also implemented in a computational code that was applied to classify the types of steps in the performed tests. The step classification results were satisfactory, compared with the specialized literature. It should be noted that the classification obtained from the application of the methodology is a suggestion of the type of footfall from an engineering point of view, and the result should be evaluated by a specialized health professional.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
