Performance of corn hybrids in different space arrangements of plants AbstractDue to recenthy introduced maize genotypes, the reassessement of recommendations of management practices is necessary, among them, the spatial arrangement of plants. In this way, this study has as aim to evaluate the best plant arrangement for the corn hybrids XB 6010, XB 6012, XB 7253, XB 9003 and AG 9010 in spacings between rows of 0.45 and 0.90 m and at populations of 50,000, 60,000, 70,000, 80,000 and 90000 plants ha -1 . The experiment was carried out on the crop year of 2009 in Selvíria (MS), following a randomized block design with two spaces arranged in bands within each block and the 25 combinations hybrid x populations randomized within spacing. The results were submitted to F test, with the effects of hybrids and spacing compared by Tukey test (p<0.05) and populations by regression analysis. Independent of hybrid and population, the spacing influenced only the stalk diameter, and the use of 0.45 m between rows proportioned the production of plants with larger stalk diameter. Stalk diameter, ear length, ear diameter, prolificacy and weight of one hundred grains decreased linearly with increasing plant population, while plant height was not affected. The best arrangements were: AG 9010 with 90,000 plants ha -1 and spacing of 0.45 m; XB 7253 with 72,000 plants ha -1 in both row spacings; and as XB 6010, XB 6012 and XB 90...
The physiological quality of seeds and the growth of bean seedlings are influenced by the production environment and handling practices, such as the pre-harvest chemical desiccation. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological quality of seeds and growth of bean seedlings, after pre-harvest paraquat applications in different times and rates. A randomized blocks design, in a 4x4 (application time x herbicide rates) factorial scheme, was used, with four replications. The paraquat was applied at 30, 35, 40, and 45 days after flowering (DAF), in rates of 0 g ha , and 600 g ha -1 ABSTRACT RESUMO. The results were submitted to variance analysis, the times compared by using the Tukey test and the rates by regression. The germination, accelerated aging of seeds, and total seedling length were not affected after the pre-harvest paraquat applications. However, the germination, after the cold test, and the seedling shoot length were affected by paraquat application times, presenting better results when the desiccant was applied at 30 DAF. The electrical conductivity of seeds decreased linearly in proportion to the increase of paraquat rates, and similar results were also observed for primary root length of seedling, with application at 30 DAF, and for first germination counting and germination speed index, with application at 45 DAF. The physiological quality of seeds and growth of seedlings were affected by pre-harvest paraquat application. KEY-WORDS:Phaseolus vulgaris L.; herbicidal desiccation; germination; seeds vigor.
ABSTRACTThe type, mode of action and time when the desiccant is applied on soybean, are factors that can affect the physiological quality seeds. But if the operation is performed adequately, it may occur in anticipation of the harvest a few days, getting seeds of higher quality. This work aimed at evaluating the desiccant effect of pre-harvest in the physiological performance of soybean seed. The design was blocks at randomized in a factorial 3 x 4 (desiccants x time) with four replications. The desiccants were Diquat and Paraquat, both in the dose of 400 g.i.a. ha -1 , + control (without desicantion). The times of application were in stages R6.0, R7.1, R7.2 and R7.3. Seeds were subjected to fermenation test, first count of germination, the germination speed rate, accelerated aging, cold testing and electrical conductivity. All tests were carried out at analysis seed laboratory analysis and technology of the University of the State of Mato Grosso. The desiccants were compared by Tukey (p<0.05). In spite of have provided anticipation of crop in only two days in relation to the control, the most favorable time to disecation, so much with Diquat as Paraquat, is at the stage R7.3, and disecateds lots with Paraquat presented better performance in some of the appraised quality tests.
ABSTRACTThe water availability and movement of water to the seeds are important for germination and seedling emergence, and these factors are influenced by soil water potential. Thus, this study was evaluated the germination, seed vigor and seedling growth of corn (XB 6010, XB 6012, XB 9003 and AG 9010) submited to hidric stress conditions. The seeds were sowing in paper towels moistened with mannitol solutions, using five levels of osmotic potential: 0.0 (control), -0.3, -0.6, -0.9 and -1.2 MPa. We evaluated the first count, and rate of germination, primary root length and shoot for shoot/root and fresh weight of seedlings. The average of hybrids were compared by Tukey test (P<0.05) and the mean levels of osmotic potential by regression analysis. Except for biomass of the seedling, there was an interaction between the factors for all tests, showing that the hybrids had a distinct behavior between them in relation to water stress induced by mannitol. Drought causes a reduction in the performance of hybrid seed corn, and they have behaved differently from each other as the tolerance in this condition. A reduction of germination, seed vigor and growth of maize seedlings as the osmotic potential of water becomes more negative.
