This experimental study tests the hypothesis that symbolic role models' impact on entrepreneurial self-efficacy and behavioural intention varies according to whether models appeal to the observers' "ideal self" or "ought self". We measure the effects of exposure to role models narratives appealing to the desire of either self-achievement or self-commitment as motivators to engage in an entrepreneurial project while still in the university and to start a business after graduation. 44 French undergraduate students enrolled in an entrepreneurial curriculum participated to this research during the Fall 2006.
Abstract. An approach was proposed in 2007 for quantitative predictions of cytochrome P450 (CYP)3A4-mediated drug-drug interactions. It is based on two characteristic parameters: the contribution ratio (CR; i.e., the fraction of victim drug clearance by CYP) and the inhibition ratio (IR) of the inhibitor. Knowledge of these parameters allows forecasting of the ratio between the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) of the victim drug when given with the inhibitor and the AUC of the victim drug when it is given alone. So far, these parameters were established for 21 substrates and 17 inhibitors. The goals of our study were to test the assumption of substrate independence of the potency of inhibitors in vivo and to estimate the CR and IR for an extended list of substrates and inhibitors of CYP3A4. The assumption of independence of IRs from the substrate was evaluated on a set of eight victim drugs and eight inhibitors. Forty-four AUC ratios were available. This assumption was rejected in four cases, but it did not result in more than a twofold error in AUC ratio predictions. The extended list of substrates and inhibitors was defined by a thorough literature search. Fifty-nine AUC ratios were available for the global analysis. Final estimates of CRs and IRs were obtained for 37 substrates and 25 inhibitors, respectively. The mean prediction error of the ratios was 0.02, while the mean absolute prediction error was 0.58. Predictive distributions for 917 possible interactions were obtained, giving detailed information on some drugs or inhibitors that have been poorly studied so far.
Networks are recognized as a central component of the entrepreneurial process, in particular with regard to opportunity identification and exploitation. In this study, we more specifically analyze the role of mentors who are in business as opportunity brokers and enablers among university students with entrepreneurial intentions. Our investigation with 1022 students from 13 French-language universities in Canada, France, Belgium and Algeria indicates that mentors in business, contrary to other mentors, support opportunity identification and exploitation among university students. Although student gender, entrepreneurial experience and education have a more pronounced effect, mentoring is the only element that can be controlled through the creation of formal support programs. These results call on public authorities, and universities in particular, to implement formal mentoring programs to support students who are interested in starting their own business, and who would not otherwise have access to business mentors in their environment.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
