Synthesisand Antibacterial Activity of Some 5-Guanylhydrazone/thiocyanato-6-arylimidazo [2,1-b]-1,3,4thiadiazole-2-sulfonamide Derivatives.-The title derivatives (IV) and (VII) are prepared by treatment of sulfonamides (II) with potassium thiocyanate and by Vilsmeier-Haak reaction followed by reaction of formyl products (V) with aminoguanidine hydrochloride, respectively. Compounds (IIa) and (Va) are new compounds. Derivatives (IV) and (VII) show significant antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus, but only moderate activity against S. typhi, P. aeruginosa, and pneumococci. The most active compounds (IVb)-(IVd) and (VIIb), (VIIc) have activities comparable to that of sulfamethoxazole and norfloxacin. -(GADAD, ANDANAPPA K.; MAHAJANSHETTI, CHANABASAPPA S.; NIMBALKAR, SUDARSHAN; RAICHURKAR, ANANDKUMAR; Eur.
