Floristic Analysis and Spatial Pattern of Natural Regeneration in anOmbrophilous Mixed Forest Area, Municipality of Caçador, Santa Catarina State, Brazil ABSTRACTThe objective of this research was to analyze the effect of extensive cattle raising on floristic composition and diversity of natural regeneration in permanent preservation areas of Ombrophilous Mixed Forest in the municipality of Caçador, Santa Catarina state, Brazil. Data were collected in 32 temporary fixed area plots (4×17 m) distributed randomly in permanent preservation areas. We measured the collar diameter (10 cm) and total height of all individuals taller than 30 cm, with circumference at breast height smaller than or equal to 15.7 cm (diameter ≤ 5 cm). The floristic analysis showed 61 species, 52 genera and 30 botanical families. The areas without cattle presented diversity slightly higher than the areas with cattle. In general, the floristic composition, diversity and equability between areas with and without cattle were similar.
AbstractComparison of sampling methods in Mixed Ombrophyllous Forest fragments, in Lebon Régis - SC. The objective of this research was to evaluate and compare sampling methods Fixed Area, Bitterlich, Strand and Prodan, in fragments of Mixed Ombrophyllous Forest, in Lebon Régis, SC state, Brazil. The forest inventory applies a simple random sampling. At each sampling unit, we evaluated every tree with diameter at breast height greater than or equal to 5 cm. For the method of Fixed Area we used dimensions of 10 x 50 m (500 m²), for Bitterlich and Strand we adopted Basal Area Factor equal to 2, and for Prodan we evaluated the 6 nearest trees. Only the Fixed Area method presented sampling sufficiency, however, it presented highest execution time in the field as well, with results significantly different from the other sampling methods. The relative efficiency was higher for Strand, but without statistical significance compare to the other methods. There were no significant differences between the number of trees and basal area per hectare, estimated by the different sampling methods. Keywords: Forest inventory; relative efficiency; araucaria forest.
AbstractModeling the diameter distribution of a fragment of Mixed Ombrophyllous Forest, in Lebon Régis, SC. The objective of this work was to fit and to select different probability density functions (pdf’s), such as, Normal, Gamma (Adapted), Beta (Adapted), Exponential, Weibull 3P, Johnson Sb, Weber and Péllico Netto, to describe the diameter distribution of all species and the seven species with the highest importance value of a fragment of Mixed Ombrophyllous Forest, in Lebon Régis, SC, Brazil. The data processing was performed using the Solver tool on MS Excel 2007, using the linear algorithm of generalized reduced gradient (GRG) for interaction of parameters. The selection criteria used were the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and statistics of fit and accuracy. According to the results, the function that best represented the diameter distribution considering all species of forest fragment was Johnson Sb. When considered the species individually, the Ln-normal function best described the diameter distribution of Myrcia sp., and Myrsine gardneriana (Aubl.) DC. For Ocotea porosa (Nees & C. Mart.) Barroso., and Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze., the function with the best adherence was Gamma (Adapted) and Ocotea elegans Mez., Mimosa scabrella Benth., and Styrax Leprosus Hook. & Arn., functions with the best performance were, 3P Weibull, Péllico Netto and Normal, respectively. Keywords: Araucaria Forest; horizontal structure; probability density function.
The mining activity is highly environmental impacting, being the excavation process and waste sterile rejects crowding the main pollution sources. The Santa Catarina Coal Basin has great importance, considering that contains 4.3 billions tons of coal (13% of the Brazilian reserve) and 6.400 hectares of degraded area. That way, the study objective was to characterize and identify the ambient impacts derivated from coal mining activities, at the Sideropolis city, SC. The base method used to evaluate was The Leopold matrix which adaptations were made according to a qualitative attribute weighting matrix to verify the significance of impacts. The interaction between two actions of the enterprise and 11 generated environmental impacts was analysed according to the attributes of frequency, extension, duration, direction and degree, both in the physical and anthropic environments. All impacts had a negative direction, where the most striking activity was the opening of the cava, which, when forming the acidic lagoon, changes the surface water quality, being described as of great importance. Therefore, recognizing the principal environment problems could help on strategies to accomplish the recovery requirements of degraded areas on this area.
