Con el objetivo de explorar en factores protectores y de riesgos asociados a conductas alimentarias se contactaron 18 familias de distinta estructura socioeconómica y familiar con hijos entre 10 a 17 años de edad. Participaron 18 madres con edades entre 31 a 53 años y un promedio de dos hijos. Respecto de los adolescentes, se seleccionó uno por cada madre, de los cuáles 10 fueron mujeres y 8 varones, la edad promedio de los hijos fue de 14 años. A ambos se les aplicó una entrevista semiestructurada que abordó tópicos sobre socialización y prácticas alimentarias promovidas en el hogar. Las entrevistas fueron analizadas con el software atlas ti, siguiendo las recomendaciones de la teoría fundamentada. El análisis a las diadas de madres e hijos señala, que si bien, existen condiciones positivas en las familias que dan cuenta de rutinas de alimentación definidas, utilización de un enfoque de conversación y estrategias de vigilancia corporal, también deja en evidencia las barreras presentes en la socialización alimentaria. La utilización de estrategias parentales estructuradas, la alimentación permisiva, la falta de accesibilidad para comprar alimentos saludables y los comentarios maternos sobre el cuerpo, constituyen factores que actuarían como promotores de riesgos para una alimentación saludable
