Objetivou-se com essa pesquisa investigar a existência de previsão para desenvolvimento de competências para prescrição de medicamentos por enfermeiros nos Projetos Pedagógicos de Curso (PPC) do curso de Enfermagem das Instituições de Ensino Superior da rede pública e privada de Campina Grande- PB. Propõe-se um estudo qualitativo com abordagem descritiva e documental. O estudo foi realizado no Município de Campina Grande- PB, junto às instituições de ensino superior que possuem em sua matriz de ensino o curso de Graduação em Enfermagem. A coleta se deu por meio duas etapas operacionais: análise de todos os PPC, a segunda foi uma entrevista semiestruturada, utilizando um roteiro previamente estabelecido e flexível com os coordenadores dos cursos. Os PPC das instituições investigadas não abordam conteúdos/componentes curriculares para desenvolver no estudante competências para a prescrição de medicamentos e que as instituições enfrentam desafios em readequar os projetos pedagógicos pós - redemocratização do ensino. Faz-se necessário que os coordenadores dos cursos e os docentes desenvolvam meios para readequação do PPC de acordo com o que preconiza o SUS para promover nos alunos uma visão crítica e reflexiva voltada para o seu campo de atuação.

O processo da reforma psiquiátrica no Brasil começou no final da década de 70, no contexto da redemocratização nacional, ou seja, na luta contra a ditadura militar. Com a ruptura do hospital psiquiátrico, o sujeito deixa de ser reduzido à doença e passa a ser usuário, cidadão que utiliza os recursos públicos. O trabalho dito "terapêutico" dos profissionais que antes se restringia ao espaço manicomial e às atividades de controle e vigilância, agora se amplia para a atuação no território; espaço não apenas administrativo, mas das relações sociais, políticas, afetivas e ideológicas. A Constituição de 1988 foi um salto importante na história da saúde mental brasileira. A saúde mental passa a ser um eixo dentro da Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF). A continuidade, o acolhimento, envolvimento e corresponsabilização dos seus grupos familiares são dispositivos importantes para a descontrução manicomial. As experiências dos Caps (Centro de Atenção Psicossocial) e das equipes volantes de psiquiatras, psicólogos, terapeutas ocupacionais, assistentes sociais, associados aos profissionais de saúde da ESF abrem o sulco do campo pós-manicomial e contribuem para a clínica comprometida com a vida, com uma subjetividade livre e com uma maneira de existir orientada para justiça social e a liberdade. Suicídio, depressão, redução da intervenção psiquiátrica, diminuição de mortes por violência e a diminuição do uso patológico de drogas legais e ilegais se constituem hoje como problemas de saúde pública no Brasil e desafios para o SUS (Sistema Único de Saúde). Ao longo deste volume serão discutidos aspectos da Reforma Psiquiátrica no Brasil, os principais desafios da saúde mental, experiências e práticas implantadas na ESF e nos Caps brasileiros.
