Introdução: O uso de anti-inflamatórios não esteroidais (AINEs) é amplo na medicina veterinária devido a suas características anti-inflamatórias, anti-pirética e analgésica. Porém, o uso equivocado pode levar a quadros de intoxicações em pequenos animais. Os AINEs agem inibindo as enzimas cicloxigenases (COX), das quais as COX-2 são responsáveis pela conversão do ácido araquidônico em mediadores inflamatórios como as prostaglandinas, sendo o foco principal de inibição pelos AINEs, e as COX-1 com a liberação de substâncias necessárias nos processos fisiológicos de proteção da mucosa gástrica e controle da perfusão renal. Assim, quando os AINEs atuam inibindo COX-1, muitos efeitos indesejados podem ocorrer, principalmente gastrointestinais.Objetivos: Com esse trabalho temos o objetivo de relatar um caso de intoxicação por AINE em cão. Materiais e Métodos: Foi atendida uma canina, Dog Alemão, não castrada, 45kg, 7 anos, na Clínica Escola do Cesmac, a qual o tutor relatou que não apoiava o membro pélvico direito e administrou por conta própria Maxicam por 2 dias na dose de 20mg/kg. Após 24 horas da administração o tutor relatou início de uma diarréia sanguinolenta e quadros de êmese recorrentes. Ao exame físico o animal apresentava-se apático, desidratado (10%), dor a palpação abdominal e com temperatura retal de 39.1°C. Devido ao quadro desfavorável do paciente e das condições financeiras do tutor, o animal foi eutanasiado e encaminhado para realização do exame de necrópsia. Resultados: Nos achados da necrópsia, o animal apresentava uma gastrite ulcerativa hemorrágica multifocal acentuada, além de apresentar lesões renais características de nefrose isquêmica. Esses achados estão relacionadas com o uso em altas doses de AINEs, que diminui a seletividade do fármaco, levando a uma inibição indesejada das COX-1, resultando nas lesões gastrointestinais e renais encontradas no exame. Conclusão: Por fim, o diagnóstico da intoxicação por AINE foi realizado baseado na anamnese, histórico clínico e aos achados do exame necrópsia, reforçando a importância dos exames post-morten para auxiliar no diagnóstico das mais diversas patologias.
