Цей факт демонструє доволі неочікувану роль таутомеризації однієї із вотсон-криківських пар основ ДНК, зокрема подвійним перенесен-ням протона: саме таутомеризація G⋅C→G*⋅C* дозволяє подолати стеричні перепони для реалізації вищезгаданих конфігурацій.Ця стаття є логічним продовженням наших досліджень -вона присвячена порівняльному квантово-хімічному аналізу структурно-енер-гетичних властивостей чотирьох конфігурацій пар основ ДНК А⋅Т і G⋅C. Інтерес до цієї те-матики «підігрітий» роботою [7], результати якої справили ефект «бомби, що вибухнула» [8], бо переконливо як експериментально, так і теоретично було продемонстровано, що комплементарні пари основ ДНК у водному розчині «дихають за Гугстином» [8]. Її авто-ри дійшли висновку, що пари А⋅Т і G⋅C «ди-хають» по-різному -перша за молекулярним механізмом, а друга -за іонізаційним, який передбачає захоплення цитозином протону із середовища у положення N3.Нижче нами запропоновано молекуляр-ний механізм перетворення вотсон-криківської пари G⋅C в електронейтральну гугстинівську пару G*⋅C* H, який потребує таутомеризації пари G⋅C, а не її протонування. Коротко аналізуються умови, за яких реалізується цей сценарій розвитку подій. Предмет дослідження -структурно-енергетичні властивості щойно перелічених пар та їх порівняння з такими самими вла-стивостями аналогічних пар, утворених осно-вами G та C та їхніми рідкісними таутомерами [9][10][11].
