This feature reviews the role that process analytical technology (PAT) plays in achieving the goals of more sustainable and higher quality chemical syntheses and processes. PAT provides fundamental understanding of chemical reactions, as well as the performance parameters of processes based on those reactions. We discuss the role of PAT in the important synthetic methods that are currently being researched, developed, and applied for augmenting sustainable chemical synthesis, including continuous flow chemistry, sustainable organocatalysis and organometallic catalysis, biocatalysis, and photoredox chemistry.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
