No Brasil, produtos florestais não madeireiros (PFNM) tais como cascas, folhas, frutos, raízes, sementes, resinas, gomas, látex, lenha, beleza cênica e outros, sustentam a subsistência e a economia das comunidades rurais e ribeirinhas, além de parte dos pequenos municípios e empreendimentos de diferentes setores e portes. Este trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar as Políticas Públicas do âmbito Federal, que se destinam a implementação de projetos para produção de PFNM. Foram analisados aspectos como escopo, regiões prioritárias, públicos-alvo, faixas de valor de financiamento, regras de carência, perspectiva de duração da iniciativa e níveis tecnológicos exigidos. Identificaram-se dezenove Políticas ou Programas, principais, de iniciativa de três Ministérios, comtemplam total ou parcialmente os PFNM, nove se sobrepõem no apoio ao manejo florestal sustentável e sistemas agroflorestais. Dentre as linhas de crédito, apenas o PRONAF Eco comtempla as cadeias produtivas do dendê e da seringa, e o FCO Conservação da Natureza contempla a produção de seringa, erva-mate, pequi, castanha-do-Brasil, mangaba, cupuaçu, araticum, açaí e outras espécies nativas. As linhas de crédito do BNDES são as que financiam os valores mais elevados na faixa dos milhões, consequentemente seus beneficiários são grandes produtores, empresas e multinacionais, provavelmente com investimentos no agronegócio. De modo geral, há crédito disponível para muitas atividades produtivas com a finalidade implementar o manejo florestal sustentável e os sistemas agroflorestais. Cadeias produtivas como produção de açaí, de castanha-do-Brasil e de erva-mate estão em ascensão e possuem políticas públicas de crédito específicas.
