This study aims to improve learning activities and the ability to determine the main and supporting ideas through the application of the BUCS earning strategy that includes Baca (read), Uraikan (transform), Cermati (observe), Sampaikan (convey) in grade IV of Islamic Elementary School (IES) SDIT Nurul ‘Ilmi, Medan. Classroom action research employed in this study refers to the Kemmis Taggart model whose cycle includes planning, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 21 students of fourth graders of the IES, whiles the objects studied were learning activities and the ability to determine the main ideas and supporting details in reading texts in the Indonesian language. Data were collected through observation sheets and tests and were analyzed by using qualitative descriptive analysis. The results show that (1) the means for learning activities of Grade IV students at SDIT Nurul ‘Ilmi likely indicated a modest increase from 72% to 77%. (2) Besides, students’ skills in identifying main ideas and supporting details likewise experienced a noticeable upturn. The means for this variable in the pretest was 57, which then escalated to 61 in cycle 1 and 89 in cycle 2, respectively.English translation. Introduction: The emergence of COVID-19 pandemic that occurred at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, China, was a health crisis that greatly affected the world. Therefore, dentists and dental nurses are professionals who have a very high risk of being exposed to the droplets and aerosol particles generated during dental procedures. Furthermore, they also have a high risk of cross-infection from exposure to microorganisms in blood, saliva, droplets, and instruments contaminated with blood, saliva, and tissue debris. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using exhaust fan wall/Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV), HEPA filter, and dental aerosol suction in the dental clinic of Academic Hospital Gadjah Mada University. Methods: The type of the research is analytical observational study. This study measured temperature, humidity, ACH and the microbial load in the 3 dental clinic rooms of Sadewa 1 RSA UGM in September 2020, using an analytical observational method with ANOVA to determine the effect of using a LEV, HEPA filter and dental aerosol suction in the dental clinic. Results: Dental clinic equipped with a LEV, HEPA filter, and dental aerosol suction, was negatively associated with room humidity levels, with a Pearson correlation of (-0.777), air humidity correlated with microbial load (0.242), but the correlation was not large. From the ANOVA results, the use of LEV, HEPA filter and dental aerosol suction against humidity has a significant effect on reducing the humidity in the dental clinic with p value 0.05. Conclusion: The use of an oral LEV, HEPA filter, and dental aerosol suction has an effect on reducing air humidity and decreasing the microbial load, affects the number of particles or droplets in dental clinics, and affects ACH.Keywords: local exhaust ventilation, HEPA filter and dental aerosol suction, microbial load, humidity
Dentists are one of the professions most at risk of infection transmission because dental care potentially produces many infectious aerosols for bacterial transmission. Using personal protective equipment and aerosol suction that meets the standards for dentists is vital to prevent cross-infection in patients in practice. This study aims to determine the effect of aerosol suction distance on the orthodontic patient bracket brushing process on total plate number and the presence of Streptococcus and Staphylococcus on the dentist’s face shield. The method used is the swab method on the face shield used by dentists after brushing orthodontic patient brackets with variations in the distance of aerosol suction to the oral cavity of 10 cm, 15 cm, and 20 cm. After 2 x 24 hours of incubation, the total plate count was calculated, and Streptococcus and Staphylococcus were identified by analyzing the characteristics of the growing colonies and executing the catalase test. The results showed that the lowest total plate number found on a face shield with aerosol suction distance of 10 cm from the oral cavity, 1.23 ± 0.01 CFU/cm2. The one-way ANOVA test obtained a significance value of p < 0.05, concluding that the variation of the aerosol suction distance affects the total face shield plate number. The presence of bacteria on the face shield was negative for Streptococcus and positive for Staphylococcus.
