A ataxia-telangietasia foi descrita pela primeira vez por Mme. Louis-Bar, em 1941 12 . Somente a partir de 1957, após os trabalhos de Boder e Sedgwick 1 ' 2 , difundiu-se universalmente o interesse por enfermidade tão curiosa, sendo hoje conhecidas cerca de 150 observações publicadas.A doença de Mme. Louis-Bar, em geral familiar, é caracterizada pela associação de ataxia cerebelar, que se instala na primeira infância, telangiectasias óculo-cutâneas, distúrbios extrapiramidais, tendência a infecções constantes do sistema respiratório, retardo estaturo-ponderal e demenciação progressiva. Há também acentuada predisposição aos tumores malignos do sistema reticuloendotelial. A doença evolui inexoravelmente, os pacientes tornam-se inválidos e perecem ainda na infância ou na adolescência em virtude das complicações infecciosas bronco-pulmonares, quando não pelas neoplasias malignas supracitadas.Julgamos oportuno o relato da presente observação, não só porque ela preenche todas as características da síndrome em discussão, como pelo fato de que apenas dois casos foram publicados na literatura médica brasileira. OBSERVAÇÃO S.C.R.S., com 3 anos de idade, sexo feminino, natural de Goiás, registro B. 124.026, internada em 30-9-1969. Aos 18 meses de idade teve uma gripe que durou mais ou menos uma semana: febre, coriza, tosse, chorava bastante. Não teve convulsões nem distúrbios do nível de vigilância. Pouco depois os pais observaram que a criança andava com insegurança e que tinha os olhos irritados. Algum tempo depois surgiram movimentos anormais nas extremidades: lentos, freqüentes, de flexão, de extensão e de rotação, dos dedos e dos artelhos. Movimentos anormais apareceram também no rosto, envolvendo sobretudo os lábios e a mandíbula. Os pais informam que a menina parece não ter habilidade manual, pois, para pegar objetos abre os dedos em demasia, e quando os segura, o faz com excessiva força. A doente está constantemente resfriada; é muito nervosa, saliva em demasia e tem certa dificuldade para falar, principalmente quando está mais nervosa.
