The aim of the study is representing the situation of Taşköprü's forest products industry and specifying its optimum competitive strategy to make it more effective in the region. The condition of the industry in Taşköprü was tried to be identified with a hybrid method which is composed of SWOT analysis and analytic hierarchy process (AHP).The SWOT analysis is a useful tool for creating future strategies but also has some weaknesses in practice. SWOT is the overall evaluation of a company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Even it has some deficiencies, The SWOT analysis is no doubt a valuable tool in the field of business strategy because it invites decision-makers to consider important aspects of their organization's environment and helps them organize their thoughts (Wang, 2007).Today, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) of Saaty (1980) is one of the most popular and powerful methods for decision making. AHP is generally used to derive priorities based on sets of pairwise comparisons (Forman and Peniwati, 1998). The AHP approach is a multi-criteria decision-making method that uses hierarchic or network structures to represent a decision problem and then develops priorities for the alternatives based on the decision maker's judgments throughout the system. It addresses the issues of how to structure a complex decision problem, identify its criteria (tangible or intangible), measure the interaction among them and finally synthesize all the information to arrive at priorities, which depict preferences (Dyer, 1990;Saaty, 1986Saaty, , 1987Saaty, , 1990.For this purpose, first of all: the strengths and weaknesses of the forest products industry and their opportunities and threats originating from the sector and district were determined using the SWOT matrix. Afterwards the information obtained from the SWOT matrix were integrated into the AHP hierarchy and the optimum strategy was tried to find out. The used data were gotten from the industry database of Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB).

The forest products industry is one of the most powerful industry branches of Turkey, and as in other developing countries, Turkey has a persistent trade deficit. The present paper aims to evaluate the forest industry products of Turkey regarding their economic contribution by Entropy-TOPSIS, which is a hybrid multicriteria decision making method. The evaluation was done to specify the products which will be able to create currency inflow most for reducing the trade deficit and help economic development. According to computations, the most contributing products are medium-density fiberboard (MDF), high-density fiberboard (HDF), industrial roundwood, and particle board. In addition, household and sanitary papers, as well as other paper and paper board products were found to have great economic potential.

In this study, it was aimed to determine the most suitable time series models with Box-Jenkins method, which was the most widely used in prediction studies. Export and import values were predicted by 2020 with the most suitable models. The data used in this study were obtained from the Turkey Statistical Institute. Data were monthly data covering from January 2003 to December 2014. Sum of Squared Errors (SSE) and Mean Squared Error (MSE) criteria were taken into consideration when selecting the best Box-Jenkins models. Also, in order to test the success of forecasting of the models, Root mean Error Square (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) were used. As a result of the analyzes, it was determined that the most suitable models for export and import data were ARIMA (2,1,0) (0,0,1)12 and ARIMA(3,1,2)(1,0,1)12. It was predicted that the rate of exports meeting imports in paper and paper products of Turkey will be approximately 0.86 in 2020.

Effects of the heat treatment parameters were evaluated relative to some physical and mechanical properties of poplar wood (Populus alba L.) with use of two of the prominent multi criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques: Entropy and The Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). To meet this objective, the test samples were heat-treated at 120, 150, 180, and 210 °C for 2 and 4 h in a laboratory-scale oven. With increasing temperature and duration, the shrinkage and swelling ratios of heat-treated samples were improved. However, the bending strength, modulus of elasticity, and compression strength generally decreased with increasing process temperature and duration. According to (MCDM) analyses, thermal modification definitely improved the physical properties of wood up to a point. Bending strength was found to be the most important determinant of heat treatment success. The other determinants were identified as swelling, compression strength, shrinkage, and modulus of elasticity, respectively. Also, the best results were obtained at 120 °C for 2 h. In general, heat treatment above 150 °C or 4 h is not recommended.

In the present paper the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on Turkish forest products industry was investigated with the help of qualitative research methods. Focus groups and interview methods were adopted as the methodology. The scope of the study is limited to wood-based panel, laminate flooring and furniture industries which are the leading branches within forest products industry of Turkey. The respondents are white-collar workers randomly chosen from engineers, managers or marketing directors of large-sized enterprises from Ankara and Bursa. The enterprises were limited with mentioned cities due to these cities are of great importance for the industry in management and marketing activities. Results showed that COVID-19 pandemic affected the labour force and income negatively. The key finding of this work is that if the pandemic lasts longer the substantial economic side effects will be inevitable. Also, the results suggest that at first the companies should focus on raw material supply and secondly to domestic market rather than the international market.
