Aromatics of a Cl5-CW mineral oil fraction, the "batching oil" used for producing jute fabrics, were analyzed for estimating the toxicity of oil transferred from jute bags to foods. Grouptype pre-separation according to ring systems occurred on a LC NH2 column with pentane and small additions of methanol as eluent. LC fractions were characterized by LC-GC-MS and quantitated by LC-GC-FID. The oil contained 23 YO aromatics and 1 YO "polars"; some 99.5 YO of the aromatics were alkylated.
The combination of a modern analytical technique and data processing that we have described here in a simplified form has been in successful use in our laboratory with several ten thousand samples for several years now. In our experience, the system usually produces the correct resulteven for complex sampleswithout any human intervention. A certain degree of checking is necessary, however, because there are some problems that, for the time being, still require human decision-making. [6] K Kugler, W Halang, R. Schlenkermann, H. Webel, and R. Langlais, Chromatographia 10 (1 977) 438.A column eflluent splitter was developed for keeping the major portion of the solvent vapors away from the detector; approximately 99 % of the vapor is vented while the remaining 1 % of vapor is used for detecting the widths of the solvent peaks. During analysis, the split ratio is reversed by a strong increase of the resistance to the gas flow through the split exit line.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
