Recurrent hypersomnia represents a rare pathology, with an etiology difficult to identify. This paper presents a female teenager's case, in the 5th hypersomnia episode, which lasts for one week, being awakened by her parents to eat and go to the toilet. The first episode occurred in December, when she was diagnosed with “Encephalitic reaction with cerebral edema and confusive syndrome. Psychoorganic syndrome. Respiratory virosis” and she was treated with cerebral depletive drugs. The following episodes of hypersomnia occurred at regulate periods of time of 3 weeks, remitted without medication; between the episodes the teenager's condition was without any somatic, cognitive alteration. All the investigations, including cerebral RMN, were normal, except for EEG, indicating a slow course in all the derivations. The anamnesis information indicating that the hypersomnia episodes were followed by the menstrual cycle, together with the ecography discovery of a right ovarian cyst of 4/4 cm, determined us to introduce oral contraceptives treatment, which lead to the disappearance of the hypersomnia episodes.
Introduction: One of the social consequences of the Romanians emigration (generated by he poor socioeconomic conditions from Romania) are the children from these families who are left in the country and who can develop different reactions more or less adaptive, depending on the previous psychopatological background of the child and the level of attachment. Aims: This research aims to analyze parent emigration as a precipitant factor in the appearance of anxiety disorders in children coming from these families. Through this study it has been followed the presence of possible associations between the anxiety of the child and its gender, the emigrant parents, the caregiver, the period of absence of the parent. Methods: For the study we analyzed two groups of 43 children each. The two groups correspond in age and location (Maramures County), the dependent variable of the study is represented by the anxiety level. The exclusion criteria were: the presence of the psychiatric diagnosis and the major life events generating stress. To identify the level of anxiety, STAI-State Trait Anxiety Inventory (Charles D. Spilberger et al.1970) scale was used. Obtained data were analyzed through statistical program SPSS, version 17. Results: 65.12% from the children with emigrated parents had both parents abroad. 4.65% from the children with the parents abroad had higher levels of anxiety comparative with the children with parents at home. Conclusions: There is a statistical valid correlation between the level of anxiety in children and the parent emigration.
Introduction and objectives: Spirituality and mental health have always been in a very dynamic relationship. One can wonder if spirituality should be taken out of psychiatry or if psychiatry lost its faith. Aims: The goal of this research is to analyze how anxiety levels are influenced by religious beliefs and practices in children and adolescents. Methods: 72 respondents participated in our study.
Each person is part of a whole, a complex emotional unit (the family) and any change in a part of a family system influence the individual. The paper aim is to present an assessment of family functioning in patients diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder admitted for treatment in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department Cluj-Napoca between 2009–2010, and to estimate how the model of family functioning influence the onset and the evolution of the disease. We followed the identification of existing borders in the family, coalitions, rules, roles, taboo subjects, resources, expressed emotions (EE) in families taken in the study, positive remarks to the patient and warmth.Expressed emotion (EE) refers to a construct encompassing several key aspects of close interpersonal relationships. It reflects critical, hostile or emotionally overinvolved attitudes on the part of a family member toward a relative with a disorder or impairment. The studied families were shown to be heterogeneous in terms of structure, rules and roles assigned to the patients within the family, which has hampered the expression of general conclusions. However, the study revealed that the positive family involvement correlate with improvement in social functioning, while criticism and hostility are factors for relapse.
The purpose of this study is to track down some correlations between physiological markers, familial dynamics and personality traits, coping mechanism and build a particular mathematical pattern, allowing us a better understanding and prediction of the illness. We assesed twenty adolescents, diagnosed with eating disorders (using KID-SCID), using Constructive Thinking Inventory and Parental Stress Index. Using stochastic shaping through Markov models, classification trees we designed a model, which will hopefully contribute to better control of the diseases.
