Çalışmanın temel amacı; Suriye iç savaşı örneğinde çocukların savaşa yönelik haberlerde yer alan görseller aracılığıyla nasıl temsil edildiklerini, çocuk odaklı habercilik bağlamında incelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda; “Savaş konulu haberlerde kullanılan fotoğraflarda çocuklar nasıl temsil edilmektedir?” sorusunun cevabı aranmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemi, Sabah gazetesinin sitesinde Suriye iç savaşına yönelik yayınlanan haberlerde kullanılan altı farklı fotoğraf ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Sabah gazetesinin örneklem olarak belirlenmesinde çalışmanın tasarlandığı döneme denk gelen 01-07 Kasım 2021 haftası tiraj raporunda tiraj oranı en yüksek olan gazete olmasıdır. Haberlerde kullanılan fotoğraflar, amaçlı örnekleme uygun olarak seçilmiştir. Seçilen fotoğraflar, Fransız Dil Bilimci Roland Barthes’in düz anlam ve yan anlam kavramları esas alınarak göstergebilimsel analiz yöntemiyle incelenmiştir.
Post-truth is the unreal transfer of truth to the public masses as a result of personal feelings or various relationship based on interests. The concept translated into Turkish as "hakikat sonrası" emphasizes that the masses accept the raw information they find ready without questioning instead of seeking the truth/real. The post-truth, which is closely related to politics, has started to attract more attention as misinformation quickly reaches individuals in new media environments. Thus, it is very difficult for large masses of people to find the right, the real, the truth in an environment of information pollution. Considering this information; the aim of this study is to examine how reality is manipulated in the movie “Don’t Look Up”. It is also aimed to reveal how the perception of the presidency is created in the aforementioned movie in the context of political humour, and to determine what kind of messages are given based on the data obtained. The importance of the study is that the aforementioned movie has just been released and that there has not been a study similar to the subject discussed in the literature. The movie was analyzed with the semiotic analysis method based on Roland Barthes's concepts of denotation and connotation. As a result of the analyzes; in the context of humour, it is observed that the facts such as political and individual self-interest, indifference, opposition to scientists and scientific findings, and distortion of reality are frequently emphasized.
This study examined how people with mental illnesses are portrayed in the news. It has been seen in the literature review on the subject that the studies examining the representation of mental illness in the national press are limited. This situation constitutes the importance of the study. The main purposes of the study are to determine how the national press portrays individuals with mental illness and to reveal the negative fiction in news texts and visuals. The news websites of “Hürriyet” and “Sabah” newspapers were chosen as the sample. The news on the websites of the relevant newspapers, whose subjects are individuals with mental illnesses, were examined for six months, from January to June 2021. Both qualitative and quantitative content analysis methods were applied in the study. It has been found that descriptive titles are generally used in the news, the subject of the news is generally mental health and police/judicial issues, that the news is usually conveyed in the form of long news, and that the source is generally healthcare professionals and news agencies.
The main purpose of the study is to reveal how elderly people are represented in the media in the context of poverty. In line with this purpose, answers are sought to the questions such as “How are elderly people represented in news visuals in the context of poverty?”, “What messages are conveyed in news visuals about elderly poverty?”, “What kind of a call is made to the society in news visuals about elderly poverty?”. Target population of the study is formed by the visuals appearing in the media about elderly poverty. Within the scope of the study, seven news visuals that are considered to represent the target population in the best way have been selected from various news websites in accordance with the objective sample and included in the scope of the study. The selected visuals have been analyzed by semiotic analysis method based on Roman Jakobson's concepts of metonomy function, metaphor function, emotive function, referential function, conative function. As a result of the study, it has been observed that the poverty of the elderly negatively affects the elderly individuals financially and spiritually, makes their lives difficult, and forces them to work.
