In seiner zusammenfassenden Arbeit tiber die Fortschritte auf dem Gebiete der Knochenpathologie sprach ~[. B. Sehmidt die Vermutung aus, da{t die pathologisch-anatomische Stellung jener ri~tselhaften Knochenerkrankung, tier sogenannten idiopathischen Knoehenbrtiehigkeit (Osteopsathyrosis Lobstein), sich wahrseheinlich dahin erledigen wtirde, dal~ es sich entweder um eine spate und mildere Form der angeborenen Knochenkrankheit, die man als Osteogenesis imperfecta bezeiehnet hat, oder aber um frtihe Formen einer osteomalacischen Erkrankung handeln k~inne.W~thrend bei der Osteogenesis imperfeeta congenita das Charakteristikum der Krankheit, das Ausbleiben einer auch nur den geringsten Anforderungen gentigenden 0steoblastent~ttigkeit, sich schon beim i n t r a u t e r i n e n Waehstum geltend macht, so dait die Kinder mit hochgradig atrophisehen, vielfach ffakturierten, manchmal tiberhaupt nur angedeuteten Knoehen geboren werden, mti~te sich bei der Osteopsathyrose der gleiche Proze~, das Sistieren fast jeder Apposition bei regelm~lliger Resorption, innerhalb der e x t r a u t e r i n en Wachstumsperiode vollziehen.Man sollte meinen, dal.~ sieh die Bereehtigung einer solchen Auffassung raseh feststellen lassen mti~te; denn der Endeffekt dieses Prozesses mul~ ganz markante Bilder liefern, die man als ,,schwerste Knochenatrophie" klassifizieren mti~te.
