Este artículo identifica los principales factores que limitan o apoyan las políticas públicas de conservación ambiental orientadas al turismo sustentable en Áreas Naturales Protegidas (ANP). Para ello fueron analizadas diversas aportaciones en la literatura científica de Iberoamérica, que entre 2010 y 2020 abordan esta problemática que afecta la calidad de vida de las comunidades insertas en dichos espacios naturales. La búsqueda estuvo centrada en las categorías de análisis ANP, turismo sustentable y políticas públicas. Entre los resultados más relevantes destaca que, los diferentes intereses de los actores vinculados a estos espaciosinfluyeron en que las políticas y sus instrumentos no cumplieran los objetivos de conservación. Se concluye la necesidad de procesos colaborativos y mecanismos de coordinación que propicien la participación e interacción entre funcionarios, habitantes locales e iniciativa privada en la toma de decisiones y elaboración de políticas públicas, para impulsar el turismo sustentable y propiciar condiciones de mayor equidad.
