Introdução: O termo câncer (CA) refere-se a um grande grupo de entidades nosológicas de ordem genética que afeta qualquer estrutura corporal A intervenção cirúrgica, a radioterapia (RT) e a quimioterapia (QT) fazem parte de seu escopo terapêutico. No entanto, muito comumente pacientes oncológicos desenvolvem como resposta adversa a mucosite oral (MO), que por sua vez compromete a integridade e funcionalidade da cavidade bucal. Contudo, a laserterapia de baixa intensidade (LTBI) vem ganhando espaço no tratamento destas lesões ulcerativas. Objetivo: avaliar os efeitos da LTBI no tratamento da MO em pacientes submetidos à terapia antineoplásica. Método: realizou-se uma busca sistemática nas bases de dados Lilacs, Medline, Scielo e PubMed, entre julho e dezembro de 2022, sendo selecionados artigos publicados nos últimos cinco anos. Resultados: após a análise sistematizada realizada por 2 pesquisadores, 200 artigos foram encontrados, sendo 194 excluídos. Discussão: a MO é o efeito adverso agudo mais debilitante naqueles em tratamento antineoplásico, merecendo atenção interdisciplinar especial. Porém, entre as modalidades terapêuticas existentes, a LTBI se destaca como uma alternativa eficaz, não invasiva, com boa tolerância e elevado perfil de segurança. Considerações finais: a literatura científica sugere que a LTBI apresenta resultados positivos no controle da inflamação, na redução das lesões e no aumento da qualidade de vida.
