Les matrones équestres de Narbonnaise " Women have their uses for historians. They offer relief from warfare, legislation, and the history of ideas; and they enrich the central theme of social history, if and when enough evidence is available".
Abstract:The funerary inscription of Optata Erennia is one among the very short list of examples of Latin epigraphs appeared up to the date in an area so deeply rich in Roman sites as the territory belonging to the old town of Puerto Real (near Cadiz). In the following pages we shall get in touch with this epigraph, studying its meaning, nature and the oddities of its historical appearances.
