Leaves of Bruguiera gymnorhiza (L.) Lam. are very popular traditional remedies used by tribal people of Bangladesh near to Sundarbans. The purpose of this work was to assess the pharmacological attributes of methanolic extract of leaves of B. gymnorrhiza employing mice model. Using the well-known tail tipping method, the in vivo glucose-lowering ability of methanolic extract of leaves of B. gymnorrhiza was investigated. The writhing experiment was performed to determine peripheral analgesic activity. The anti-diarrheal activity was determined utilizing the castor oil-induced diarrhea in the mice model. In consequence, oral treatment of the extract at 400 mg/kg b.w. dose caused significant suppression of acetic acid-induced writhing (58.33%). The findings were comparable to the corresponding standard diclofenac (50 mg/kg b.w.) that exhibited 86.67% inhibition of abdominal writhing. Besides, after 180 min of oral ingestion (400 mg/kg) of the extract, the maximum reduction in blood glucose (38.46%) was found, compared to standard glibenclamide (73.67%). Furthermore, when compared to conventional loperamide (65.06%), there was a 40.02% reduction in diarrheal feces at 400 mg/kg b.w. dose. The methanolic extract of leaves of B. gymnorrhiza has strong peripheral analgesic and anti-diarrheal efficacy, as well as modest glucose-lowering effect, according to these in vivo bioassays. Further studies are still recommended to isolate bioactive molecules in order to develop novel drug moieties.

p-coumaric acid, commonly referred to as 4-hydroxycinnamic acid, is a phenolic acid, which has been subjected to much research in recognition of its beneficial properties against several diseases and its widespread distribution in the plant kingdom. This compound can be found in the free-state or coupled with other molecules in nature. It has demonstrated prospective pharmacological effects including antiproliferative, nephroprotective, neuroprotective, antioxidant and antimicrobial effects in addition to other biological properties through numerous in vivo, in vitro and clinical studies. This review reported a short summary on p-coumaric acid to provide fundamental information in its biosynthesis, plant sources, and pharmacological effects which may help in future research and development of novel therapeutics.

Malaria is a serious illness resulted from parasites that are communicated to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Malaria is still in a worrying trend, particularly in tropical and subtropical climates although it is curable and preventable. In spite of a noteworthy abetment in incidence and death rates caused by malaria, even in 2017, a big number of people (219 million) have been affected by it along with 435 thousand confirmed death cases. Though a lot of synthetic drugs have been commercialized to treat malaria, those are compromised with some serious side effects. On the contrary, plant sources are always getting a big focus to develop novel and effective therapeutics in the treatment of different ailments i.e. quinine and artemisinin to treat malarial complications. The usage of herbal plants against malaria has also a very ancient root. Several families of plant species have showed potential antimalarial activities in previous research works. In this review work, families of these plants have been compiled so that prospective researchers can find a hint to discover more effective and safer plant-derived therapeutic options against malaria.
