Dentre as medidas silviculturais de prevenção contra incêndios florestais destacam-se as cortinas de segurança. Estas estruturas consistem em plantios com espécies de menor inflamabilidade em relação ao cultivo principal, que tem como objetivo reduzir e/ou prevenir a propagação do fogo. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a inflamabilidade de Psidium cattleianum Sabine., Ligustrum lucidum W. T. Aiton., Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi. e Bougainvillea glabra Choisy., para potencial uso em cortinas de segurança. Nesta pesquisa utilizou-se Pinus taeda L. como controle. As queimas foram realizadas em epirradiador, com temperatura de 250 °C a 350 °C, para as quais se utilizou 1 g de material fino (< 0,7 cm de diâmetro) recém-coletado. Para cada espécie, realizou-se 50 repetições, sendo analisados: frequência de ignição, tempo para ignição, duração da combustão, índice de combustão, além da determinação do valor de inflamabilidade. P. taeda apresentou uma intensidade de combustão muito alta e foi classificado como espécie inflamável. As demais espécies foram consideradas fracamente inflamáveis, sendo que S. terebinthifolius e B. glabra indicaram uma intensidade de combustão baixa, L. lucidum média e P. cattleianum, alta. Neste contexto, conclui-se que as espécies avaliadas apresentam potencial para uso em cortina de segurança na prevenção de incêndios florestais.
Zonas de vida ecológicas do Brasil. Muitos sistemas de classificação foram desenvolvidos para auxiliar na missão de descrever o clima, mas nenhum é capaz de atender a todas as atividades humanas. O sistema desenvolvido por Holdridge em 1947, chamado de "zonas de vida", é considerado o sistema de classificação climática mais ecológico pelo uso da biotemperatura. Diversos países já possuem um mapa das suas zonas de vida e o objetivo deste estudo é classificar cada município brasileiro de acordo com esse sistema. Dados de temperatura, precipitação, altitude e latitude, cedidos por Alvares et al., (2013), foram aplicados na metodologia descrita em Holdridge (2000). O mapa das zonas de vida foi comparado com o mapa de vegetação por meio de matrizes de correlação, que geraram índices de correspondência de 0 a 100%. Os resultados mostraram que o Brasil tem 35 zonas de vida. As mais comuns são floresta úmida tropical e floresta úmida tropical premontana, cobrindo quase 50% do território. Após as análises de correlação, foi possível identificar que 21 zonas de vida têm mais de 80% das suas superfícies explicadas por dois tipos de vegetação ou menos. A distribuição das zonas de vida foi consistente com as características de cada região, em termos de vegetação e clima; desta forma, o sistema de classificação de Holdridge pode ser considerado uma opção relevante e específica para tomadas de decisão na agricultura e silvicultura.
RESUMOO clima está relacionado com a vegetação, influenciando a sua distribuição, bem como a produtividade de atividades agrícolas e florestais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi classificar climaticamente os municípios de Mato Grosso, segundo o sistema de "zonas de vida" de Holdridge, e compará-lo com a classificação de Köppen e com o mapa de vegetação. Com os dados de temperatura e precipitação foi possível calcular as bio-temperaturas médias anuais dos 141 municípios que, em conjunto com a precipitação média anual, foram utilizadas no diagrama de Holdridge para determinação das zonas de vida. Os valores utilizados representam a média de, no mínimo, 25 anos de registros, obtidos entre 1950 e 1990, de 12 estações meteorológicas. Dados de altitude e latitude foram utilizados para determinação das regiões latitudinais e pisos altitudinais. A classificação climática foi realizada utilizando o programa FoxPro. Foram encontradas nove zonas de vida para o estado de Mato Grosso: floresta úmida tropical basal (28,8%); floresta úmida subtropical premontana (26,6%); transição entre floresta úmida e muito úmida subtropical premontana (19,1%), tropical basal (9,6%) e tropical premontana (6,4%); floresta úmida subtropical basal (5,9%); transição entre floresta muito úmida e úmida tropical premontana (1,6%); floresta úmida tropical premontana (1,1%); e transição entre floresta úmida e seca subtropical premontana (0,9%). Conclui-se que as zonas de vida de Holdridge são apropriadas para classificar o clima do estado de Mato Grosso, tendo em vista que o sistema mostrou-se satisfatório quando comparado à classificação de Köppen e à vegetação do estado. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi enquadrar o Estado do Espírito Santo no modelo de Holdridge, comparando-o com o sistema de Köppen e a distribuição fitogeográfica. Com as médias municipais de biotemperatura, precipitação, relação de evapotranspiração potencial, altitude e latitude, determinaram-se as zonas de vida de cada um dos 78 municípios do Estado. Obtiveram-se dados a partir de bases cartográficas oficiais e registros de no mínimo 25 anos coletados em estações meteorológicas e postos pluviométricos. Processaram-se as informações com programa FoxPro e o enquadramento das classes climáticas se fez por intermédio de diagramas. Os resultados revelaram seis zonas de vidas: floresta úmida/seca subtropical basal (52%), floresta úmida subtropical basal (25%), floresta úmida/seca tropical premontana (13%), floresta seca/úmida subtropical basal (7%), floresta úmida subtropical montana baixa (3%) e floresta úmida tropical premontana (1%). Três zonas de vida se correlacionaram significativamente com três tipos climáticos de Köppen, sendo que o fator relevo foi o principal causador da recorrência espacial. A fitogeografia não se correlacionou significativamente com a classificação do sistema de Holdridge, porém seriam necessárias mais pesquisas para robustecer esta constatação.
O clima é a síntese de elementos meteorológicos observados durante um longo período de tempo e possui estreita relação com a vegetação. A classificação climática de Holdridge define zonas de vida representativas para as diferentes regiões da Terra, que refletem a conjuntura destes elementos meteorológicos. Este trabalho objetivou a classificação do estado do Rio Grande do Sul segundo este sistema, visando comparar com a classificação climática de Köppen, bem como as fitogeografias do estado. Com base em uma série histórica não contínua mínima de 25 anos, de 1950 a 1990, de dados pluviométricos e de temperatura, associados às variáveis de latitude e altitude, foi possível calcular e determinar as zonas de vida individualmente para os 496 municípios do estado. Oito zonas de vida foram encontradas, das quais se destacaram: floresta úmida temperada basal (74,0%); floresta muito úmida/floresta úmida temperada basal (13,8%); e floresta úmida/floresta muito úmida temperada basal (8,0%). A relação entre Holdridge e Köppen apresentou correspondência acima de 90% em sete das oito zonas de vida encontradas (87,5% do território do estado), predominantemente com o tipo climático Cfa (clima temperado, com chuva o ano todo e verão quente). Regiões de Estepe e Savana-estépica obtiveram 100% de correspondência com as zonas de vida floresta muito úmida temperada basal e com as respectivas transições com floresta úmida temperada basal. O sistema de zonas de vida de Holdridge mostrou-se uma importante ferramenta para o zoneamento agrossilvicultural do estado, uma vez que houve uma interação satisfatória quando comparado com o sistema de classificação climática de Köppen e com algumas fitogeografias.
