<p>Tanaman padi (<em>Oryza sativa </em>L.) menjadi makanan pokok lebih dari setengah penduduk dunia. Penelitian bertujuan mengetahui sistem tanam dan varietas yang paling tepat terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman padi. Telah dilaksanakan di Desa Bondansari Kecamatan Wiradesa Kabupaten Pekalongan. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah rancangan split plot, dengan dua faktor yaitu sistem tanam sebagai main plot, (S1 = jajar legowo 4:1, S2 = jajar legowo 3:1, S3 = jajar legowo 2:1, S4 = tegel) dan varietas sebagai sub plot, (V1 = Inpari IR Nutri Zinc, V2 = Inpari 32, V3 = Ciherang) dengan 3 ulangan. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji F dan jika terdapat perbedaan nyata dilanjutkan uji BNT 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sistem tanam berbeda sangat nyata terhadap variabel jumlah anakan produktif, jumlah gabah hampa, bobot tanaman kering. Berbeda nyata terhadap variabel panjang daun bendera, bobot gabah basah, bobot gabah kering. Berbeda tidak nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman, jumlah anakan, panjang malai dan jumlah gabah bernas. Sistem tanam yang paling tepat terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman padi adalah jajar legowo 2:1. Perlakuan varietas berbeda sangat nyata terhadap semua variabel yang diamati. Varietas yang paling tepat terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman padi adalah Inpari 32. Interaksi antara sistem tanam dan varietas padi berbeda nyata terhadap panjang daun bendera dan jumlah gabah hampa, berbeda tidak nyata terhadap veriabel lainnya. Interaksi terbaik yaitu sistem tanam jajar legowo 2:1 dan varietas Inpari IR Nutri Zinc.</p><p>Kata kunci : padi, sistem tanam, varietas.</p>
