O currículo escolar, muitas vezes, tem sido decidido por classes dominantes e expressa conteudismo e descontextualização. No entanto, movimentos sociais têm impulsionado modificações no currículo para o tratamento de questões étnico-raciais. Na busca pela contextualização com a realidade e integração entre as ciências, objetivamos investigar os processos de ensino e aprendizagem por meio do desenvolvimento de uma proposta de reconfiguração curricular com o tema cuidado de cabelos crespos e cacheados. Para isso, a proposta foi desenvolvida e implementada em uma escola técnica com trinta e dois estudantes participantes, os quais responderam a um questionário e elaboraram duas produções textuais. Os dados foram analisados à luz da Análise Textual Discursiva da qual obtivemos três categorias emergentes, a saber: O processo de rejeição/aceitação da identidade por meio do cabelo; Níveis de compreensão do conteúdo; e, O problema do consumo em detrimento da reafirmação da identidade. Os resultados apontam que a aceitação da identidade racial negra aparece entre os estudantes por meio dos cabelos cacheados, mas, nesse processo, está inserito o problema do consumismo. Além disso, conforme expresso nas atividades, os estudantes apresentaram evidências da aprendizagem de conteúdos químicos por meio do tema discutido.
