O tema reciclagem/reutilização é amplamente discutido nos cursos de graduação em engenharia, independente da especialidade do curso e da existência de uma disciplina específica para esse assunto. O presente trabalho enfoca como o tema reciclagem/reutilização está sendo abordado na grade curricular dos cursos de engenharia ambiental e engenharia mecânica do Centro Universitário de Volta Redonda – Unifoa. Para tal, a grade curricular dos dois cursos foi levantada, com o intuito de definir os docentes alvos da pesquisa e respectivos períodos das disciplinas. Foi elaborado um questionário sobre reciclagem/reutilização, abordando o tema no dia a dia, no Unifoa e na comunidade imediata. Foi unânime a ideia que é de suma importância abordar o tema no curso de engenharia, contribuindo para a construção de sociedades sustentáveis por meio de ações voltadas à minimização de resíduos, conservação do meio ambiente, melhoria da qualidade de vida e formação de pessoas comprometidas com estes ideais.
