A conservação do patrimônio arquitetônico envolve um processo de análise do bem no decorrer do tempo e tem como objetivo a manutenção do seu valor patrimonial. Os conceitos contemporâneos de significância cultural, autenticidade e integridade têm atuado como elementos balizadores das ações de conservação sobre o patrimônio. Dentro desse contexto, percebe-se que algumas obras da arquitetura moderna têm apresentado problemas que impactam diretamente a significância, a integridade, a autenticidade e, consequentemente, a manutenção das suas características de valor patrimonial. Observa-se, muitas vezes, a existência de conflitos entre as condições de degradação do bem e a manutenção do seu valor patrimonial, indicando dificuldades quanto à proposição de ações conservativas que possam gerar um menor impacto possível sobre tais valores. Apesar da importância do conceito de integridade no processo de conservação do patrimônio, ainda não há um consenso claro quanto ao sentido exato de sua aplicação ou ao estabelecimento de parâmetros específicos que possam guiar a sua avaliação na prática. O objetivo do presente trabalho é apresentar a importância do conceito de integridade dentro do contexto das ações de conservação e intervenção sobre os edifícios da arquitetura moderna e os principais desafios inerentes à sua aplicação prática no processo de conservação. Conclui-se que a integridade deve ser operacionalizada como ponto central do processo de conservação do patrimônio moderno, podendo apontar a necessidade de realização de intervenções e ações de manutenção em momento anterior à necessidade realização de intervenções de maior impacto, onde já se observa um avançado processo de degradação sobre o bem.
