RESUMO A presente pesquisa foi desenvolvida com o objetivo de identificar a metodologia de condução do teste de envelhecimento acelerado (EA) capaz de ranquear de forma eficiente o potencial fisiológico de cinco lotes de sementes linho. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias entre os lotes foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. A qualidade inicial das sementes foi determinada pelos testes: teor de água, germinação em laboratório, teste de frio, emergência de plântulas a campo, índice de velocidade de emergência, comprimento de parte aérea e fitomassa seca da parte aérea. As metodologias de teste de EA utilizadas foram: procedimento tradicional (em água) e EA em solução saturada de Cloreto de sódio (NaCl), durante 48h e 72h à 41ºC, determinando-se o teor de água das sementes após cada período de envelhecimento. Os resultados obtidos revelam que o teste germinação em laboratório e emergência a campo foram sensíveis para estratificar os lotes quanto ao seu potencial fisiológico, diferente do observado nos testes de desempenho de plântulas, índice de velocidade de emergência, fitomassa seca, comprimento da parte aérea e teste de frio, que não mostraram sensibilidade para distinguir os lotes em diferentes níveis de vigor. Conclui-se que o teste EA com solução saturada de NaCl no período de 72h é a alternativa mais eficiente e promissora para avaliação do potencial fisiológico de lotes de sementes de linho, ranqueando os lotes em três níveis distintos de vigor.
