The cluster [Ru,(CO),,] reacts with 2-methylthiophene in refluxing tetrahydrofuran t o give products of oxidative
addition b y C-H cleavage, [Ru,(p-H)(p-C,H,MeS)(CO),,](exo and endo), as well as t w o compounds derived by S-C bond cleavage, [ Ru,(p-C,H,Me) (CO),] and [Ru4(p3-S) (p-C,H,Me) (CO),,] (X-ray structure determined), this being the first example of the fragmentation of a thiophene t o leave both the inorganic and the organic fragments, S and C,H,Me, co-ordinated in the same organometallic compound.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
