Las redes sociales han logrado que su uso llegue a considerarse como esencial en cualquier ámbito de la vida. También en el ámbito educativo, en el cual hacen que el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje rompa con los cánones tradicionalistas, promoviendo la eficacia y calidad de la educación. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo explorar cuáles son las redes más utilizadas por el alumnado universitario y con qué fines educativos. Para ello se ha utilizado un método cuantitativo, siendo el cuestionario, diseñado “ad hoc” el instrumento de recogida de información. La muestra la componen un total de 76 estudiantes de la Facultad de Educación de Badajoz. Los resultados indican que las redes sociales están en plena expansión dentro de las aulas universitarias y que WhatsApp es la más utilizada, seguida de Instagram. El alumnado utiliza estas redes de modo educativo para compartir información y/o documentos, apoyarse, mostrar su opinión y participar en grupos (principalmente sin docente). Como conclusión, destacar que las redes sociales son un recurso entre los universitarios y su utilización dentro de las aulas puede ser un recurso muy adecuado dada la cotidianeidad de uso entre las nuevas generaciones.
