Introdução: O Método Canguru consiste em um formato de assistência ao recém-nascido prematuro e/ou em situação de baixo peso, dentro da Unidade de Tratamento Intensivo Neonatal, que encoraja a presença dos pais nos cuidados diários com o bebê, bem como estimula o toque e a realização da posição canguru. Tal postura fundamenta-se em assegurar o neonato na vertical, no peito dos pais, mantendo um contato pele a pele. A utilização do método está inserida no contexto da humanização da assistência neonatal, no intuito de reduzir os impactos negativos do período de internação do recém-nascido, visto que a separação prolongada e precoce entre os pais e o bebê é capaz de repercutir em sequelas neurológicas e atrasos no desenvolvimento do recém-nascido. Objetivos: Descrever a importância do método canguru no cuidado ao recém-nascido prematuro. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma revisão narrativa com base na análise de bibliografias referentes à temática escolhida, fontes estas que incluíram textos oficiais da Sociedade Brasileira de Pediatria, bem como publicações de autores sobre o Método Canguru. Resultados: O Método Canguru oferece numerosos benefícios para a relação entre os bebês e seus pais por favorecer o vínculo, reduzir o tempo de separação, proporcionar maior confiança da família em relação ao cuidado com o filho, e corroborar para uma melhor conexão dos pais com os profissionais da saúde envolvidos no processo. Ademais, essa estratégia estimula o desenvolvimento sensorial do bebê, além de reduzir a dor e o estresse dele. Outrossim, um importante fundamento do método é o incentivo ao aleitamento materno, no qual a mãe recebe orientações para a extração manual de seu leite e posterior oferecimento dele ao bebê com o auxílio da equipe de saúde. Conclusão: O Método Canguru é uma importante ferramenta para a família e para a equipe de saúde no cuidado ao recém-nascido prematuro e/ou em situação de baixo peso ao nascer, devendo, portanto, ser incentivado e orientado pelos profissionais da saúde para que ocorra da melhor forma possível.
Introdução: A deficiência de ferro é a carência nutricional mais prevalente no mundo, e as crianças são mais vulneráveis a esse déficit, visto a elevada velocidade de crescimento nesse período, o que demanda maior aporte desse mineral. Essa condição pode gerar anemia ferropriva, a qual atinge 2 bilhões de pessoas mundialmente e é responsável por prejudicar o desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor do indivíduo, alteração esta que pode permanecer apesar da terapia farmacológica com ferro. Considerando as repercussões deletérias da deficiência de ferro, o Ministério da Saúde criou o Programa Nacional de Suplementação de Ferro (PNSF), cuja finalidade é evitar anemia ferropriva através da suplementação profilática e universal de ferro em crianças entre seis e 24 meses de vida, gestantes e mulheres até o terceiro mês pós-parto e pós-aborto. Objetivo: Analisar a aplicabilidade e a efetividade do PNSF em municípios brasileiros, e determinar os fatores que dificultam a plena concretização do programa. Metodologia: O presente estudo baseou-se em artigos indexados na base eletrônica Scientific Electronic Library Online - SciELO, em repositórios digitais de universidades brasileiras, em manuais do Ministério da Saúde, bem como em revistas científicas online. Resultados e discussão: A literatura contesta a efetividade do PNSF e ressalta que o cenário está longe da desejada erradicação da anemia, uma vez que não foi possível verificar redução do número da anemia moderada. Observaram-se entraves para o pleno sucesso do programa, tais como falta de capacitação e de motivação dos profissionais de saúde envolvidos com o PNSF, monitoramento escasso do programa, posologia insuficiente de sulfato ferroso, má distribuição e efeitos colaterais do suplemento férrico, e má adesão à suplementação pelos responsáveis das crianças. Conclusão: Apesar da criação de estratégias para a redução da anemia por deficiência de ferro no Brasil, a prevalência desta continua elevada, estando associada às fragilidades da efetivação do programa. Ressalta-se a importância do aprofundamento das pesquisas neste tema, a fim de identificar os pontos a serem melhorados no PNSF e posteriormente corrigi-los, visando à efetivação do programa e consequente diminuição do número de indivíduos afetados pela deficiência de ferro.
