Trata-se de pesquisa quantitativa exploratória que objetivou: identificar as formas de reconhecimento da violência intrafamiliar contra idosos referidos pela equipe de Estratégia Saúde da Família, em Curitiba. Foi realizada de abril a junho de 2008, com 96 integrantes, mediante entrevista estruturada. Verificou-se que 91% dos participantes reconhecem a violência, e a forma mais comum foi o abandono/negligência, com 78% das respostas. Para 86% dos sujeitos a visita domiciliar foi o mecanismo mais usado para sua identificação. Os motivos que dificultam o reconhecimento da violência para 22% são o fato de o idoso não falar a respeito do assunto, problemas de comunicação e doenças. O Fundo de Ação Social é citado como local para encaminhamento dos idosos. Os resultados direcionam para novos estudos com aprofundamento de questões relativas à prevenção e ao reconhecimento da violência pela Estratégia de Saúde da Família.
Trata-se de estudo etnográfico focado no cuidado de si dos idosos com doenças crônicas, moradores em instituição de longa permanência (ILP), situada em Curitiba-PR, que acolhe idosos do sexo masculino. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a cultura de cuidados dos profissionais de saúde aos idosos da Instituição. As informações foram coletadas por meio de observação participante e de entrevista etnográfica. Das análises surgiram quatro domínios, que irão subsidiar ações futuras, programadas para o cuidado de si do idoso relacionado à doença crônica. 1. O banho como controle dos odores; 2. Música e medicamentos: cuidados que significam remédios; 3. Quedas e traumas: cuidados que asseguram a independência; 4. Dietas padronizadas para controle das doenças crônicas. Evidencia-se como cultura de cuidados prestados pelos profissionais da instituição a direção da ordem e do controle de todas as situações que, pela carência de recursos humanos e financeiros, torna-se imperiosa a governabilidade dirigida e a generalização dos cuidados.
