Aimed at verifying the occurrence of adverse events related to enteral nutrition use in patients of a public hospital in the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul. A quantitative, longitudinal and descriptive study, conducted in January-May 2012, that accompanied 46 patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and Medical Clinic. For evaluating the adverse events, we used quality indicators: inadvertent exit, tube obstruction and volume of infused diet. For analysis, we used descriptive statistics. The results showed that inadvertent exit of the tube and obstruction presented incidence rates of 4.6% and 2.1%, respectively. The volume of diet infused was less than that prescribed, due to pauses for body hygiene, tests and procedures, nausea/vomiting and delay in the availability of installation of the bottle in the unit. We conclude that the use of quality indicators in the assessment of care can help reduce damage to the patient.
AbstractThe aim of this study was to elaborate a self-report instrument to evaluate dimensions of parental educational practices concerning adolescents. The sample was composed of 409 adolescents (57,9% women, with an average age of 16,52 years old), from which 298 provided complete protocols. Initially, 62 items were generated to evaluate different dimensions of parental practices. The underlying structure present in the set of items was evaluated using principal components analysis. Repeated analysis allowed an interpretable solution of 6 components for a set of 27 items, considering items with factor loadings greater than 0.35 in just one component. The identified components are listed below, together with the respective Cronbach alpha value of the correspondent scales: punitive control (0.73), behavioral supervision (0.77), responsibility demandingness (0.70), intrusiveness (0.67), emotional support (0.89) and autonomy granting (0.76). Therefore, the results show that it is possible to empirically distinguish more specific parental educational practices than the responsiveness and demandingness dimensions that are tipically mentioned in the literature. Moreover, the scales show different correlational patterns when some psychosocial development indicators are considered, suggesting that the effects over the development are also distinct. Forty-nine AIDS patients, most of who were antiretroviral therapy (ARV) naive, with active tuberculosis, were treated with Rifampin 600 mg, Isoniazid 400 mg and Pirazinamide 2 g daily. They also received ARV, consisting of Efavirenz (600 mg/day) plus 2 NRTIs. All patients were prospectively followed for at least 24 months. Baselines were: male/female ratio 2:1, mean age 34.7 +/- 9.4 yrs; weight 51 +/- 9.0 kg, viral load 5.6 +/- 0.6 logs, CD4 cell count 101 +/- 128 cells/ mm3. Follow up mean values of data logs of VL and CD4+ cell /mm3 counts were: VL 1.7 and CD4+ 265; VL 1.3 and CD4+ 251; VL 1.4 and CD4+ 326 at 6, 12 and 24 months, respectively. Weight gain changes were: 5 +/- 9.9 +/- 12 and 21 +/- 16 kg respectively at 6, 12 and 24 months. A non-concomitant ARV regimen was introduced at least three weeks after TB treatment initiation. Severe adverse reactions included rash (two), toxic hepatitis (six), Immune Reconstitution Syndrome (seven), and four deaths. We conclude that Efavirenz at a daily dose of 600 mg is sufficient and safe to treat HIV/TB patients using a Rifampin containing regimen.
