ResumoO artigo objetiva discutir as relações entre comunicação e negligenciamento, a partir de seu imbricamento na saúde coletiva, particularmente pelo conceito de doenças negligenciadas.Situa-se num conjunto de preocupações científico-acadêmicas e políticas sobre o tema da invisibilidade e do seu reverso, a visibilidade como problemas de saúde e de comunicação. Seu argumento apóia-se nas afirmações: a comunicação é evidência e fator determinante do negligenciamento, devendo estar entre os indicadores que caracterizam uma doença negligenciada; a comunicação pode ser considerada negligenciada quando persevera nos velhos modelos e práticas, age de forma centralizada, privilegia exclusivamente a fala institucional, ignora os contextos, é tratada como informação e não como interlocução; a comunicação negligenciada nega princípios do Sistema Único de Saúde. A abordagem contempla a caracterização das doenças negligenciadas; a visibilidade como uma característica constitutiva dos tempos atuais; a relação entre invisibilidade, negligência e cuidado; a caracterização do que se entende como "comunicação negligenciada"; a relação entre comunicação, negligenciamento e princípios do SUS. Conclui-se que a comunicação de que precisamos para garantir o direito à saúde necessita promover o reconhecimento daquilo e daqueles que não estão em cena.
