The article contains information about the reference base created in the Far Eastern branch of FSUE “VNIIFTRI” for metrological support of acoustic measurements in solid media during non-destructive testing by acoustic methods. The metrological characteristics of the created reference means of different levels of accuracy are given.
389.620.179 Data are given on the stages in developing and upgrading methods and means of checking ultrasonic thickness gauges and on the drafting of the intergovernmental standard "Ultrasonic thickness gauges: Methods and means of checking themS which replaces The All-Russia Physicotechnical Measurement Research Institute, also known as Dal'standart, is the state unitary organization concerned with metrological support to ultrasonic thickness gauges, and it is constantly updating methods and means of checking this group of nondestructive monitoring facilities.Up to 1971, there were no checks on nondestructive test facilities. The first researches on metrological support to ultrasonic thickness gauges were performed by Dal'standart experts (previously the Khabarovsk branch of the All-Union Technical Physics and Electronics Research Institute) and were published in 1973. At that time, standard means of measurement were developed (the KMT-176 set of thickness measures), which included sets of plane-parallel thickness measures for ultrasonic wave speeds in the range 4500-6500 m/sec, as well as sets of thickness measures where there were influencing factors (curvature and roughness in the monitoring surfaces, and lack of parallelism between the faces of the measure under the sensor), in addition to a thickness measure containing flat-bottomed holes of various diameters, which enables one to determine the minimum size of any reflecting surface [I, 2]. The first method of checking ultrasonic thickness gauges, MI 40-75 [3], was based on these facilities. Subsequently, the KMT-176 set of thickness measures was upgraded without altering the range of measures by reducing the metal content and simplifying the state registration of the entire thickness measure set. The KMT-176 set was divided into two parts. The set of plane-parallel thickness measures was registered as KMT-176 M-l, while the set of measures subject to influencing factors was raised to the rank of standard specimens and registered as the KUSOT-180 set of ultrasonic standard specimens. The concept of equivalent ultrasonic thickness was introduced for the measures and standard specimens. On the basis of these changes in the sets, the method of checking ultrasonic thickness gauges was revised, and from January 1985, GOST 8.495-83 replaced MI 40-75 [4].In t 998, Dal'standart used the same KMT-176 M-1 and KUSOT-180 standard checking facilities to upgrade the method of checking ultrasonic thickness gauges given in the [4] standard. In place of that standard, an intergovernmental standard lbr the CIS countries "Ultrasonic thickness gauges: Methods and means of checking" was developed, which enables one to check imported ultrasonic thickness gauges. Certain inaccuracies in [4] were eliminated: the definition of the measured thickness range was combined with the definition of the basic error of a thickness gauge: the section was eliminated on the obligatory checking during issue, repair, and use (this was caused because there is a change in the state of the thic...
