A phylogenetic approach to a global supraspecific taxonomy of Cortinarius (Agaricales) with an emphasis on the southern mycota

Abstract: A section-based taxonomy of Cortinarius, covering large parts of the temperate North and South Hemispheres, is presented. Thirty-seven previously described sections are reviewed, while another forty-two sections are proposed as new or as new combinations. Twenty additional clades are recovered but not formally described. Furthermore, six new or combined species names are introduced, and one species is neotypified. The structure is supported by morphological characters and molecular evidence, based on two (nrI… Show more

“…Telamonia would be a four-digit number. Thus far, members of the subgenus have not been found in the Nothofagus forests of New Zealand (Soop et al 2019) and from Nothofagus forests of South America only one species is confirmed (Garnica et al 2005).…”

“…Trog sensu lato was a traditional subgenus, based on moist to dry, strongly to weakly hygrophanous and often brown coloured pileus ( Brandrud et al 1989 ; Bidaud et al 1994 ). Some species in traditional subgenus Telamonia sensu lato were classified into other subgenera and several new sections in subgenus Telamonia sensu stricto, based on phylogenetic studies ( Niskanen et al 2015 ; Soop et al 2019 ).
